Sharing stories is powerful and helps us connect and COVID-19 has shown just how important that connection through shared experience is. 
Together, we help in Scotland is a project to gather shared stories from the COVID-19 experience.  

This series of blog posts based on the theme of Getting Real about Leadership resonates with aspects of our ethos and offer interesting reading for some reflective practice. They are also downloadable so ideal for sharing with teams or peers.

Between theory and practice is anxiety. It’s comfortable learning about riding a bike, even exciting. But, getting on the seat for the first time takes courage. Dan Rockwell (Leadership Freak) asked several leaders, “How does one overcome anxiety and get on the bike?”

In order to bring our the best in others we must first be able to bring out the best in ourselves – and then learn to actively listen to what is going on for others.  This is essential for compassionate leadership and culture where relationships matter and are given attention, where kindness can develop and where services, and staff wellbeing,  can be improved.

As the first wave of the coronavirus recedes, the work of recovery is beginning…this ‘in-between’ stage offers a unique opportunity to think about what we reinstate, what new things we take forward with us, what needs to end, and what may need to change further to deal with longer term challenges.

Our first report was published in June 2019 and was designed to be accessible to audiences that reflect our wonderfully diverse system and the networks and groups within. It was an opportunity to recognise why and where Project Lift has come from, the extensive evidence base that underlies the ethos and to share a clearer, then live view of what we were doing, how we were doing this, who with and to what aspirations.
