Community Perspective - Digital Events

Roles:

  • Medical Director – responsible for the wellbeing of medical, dental and pharmacy staff within NHS Borders along with the provision of safe, effective, patient centred services.
  • Consultant in Acute Medicine – delivery of care to acutely unwell medical patients over the first 48 hours of their hospital stay.
  • Mum – cook, housekeeper, cleaner, laundress, taxi driver, teacher, cat feeder!

I’m really delighted to have the opportunity to explore unconventional career pathways as part of this Project Lift event. I believe that there are lots of people who work across health and social care, who consider applying for roles but ultimately decide against it, because they worry that they are not appropriately experienced or qualified. Throughout my career, I have struggled with Imposter Syndrome and this has never been greater than following my recent appointment to Medical Director! My journey here has been interesting, with lots of ups and downs and colourful moments that have challenged my confidence on many occasions. I’m keen to learn of others’ experiences and to see if through discussion, we can encourage people to be brave, consider alternatives and reach beyond expectation!
