I joined the Scottish Social Service Council (SSSC) in 2008. I have held a number of roles within Fitness to Practice before being appointed to Head of Learning and Development in August 2018. I am currently Acting Director of Development and Innovation and the strategic lead for workforce development. Before joining the SSSC, I worked as a social worker in local government in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). My particular interests are workforce education and training, safeguarding individuals, trauma informed and a rights-based approaches to practice.
I am extremely passionate about supporting the workforce and the importance of leadership at all levels. Supporting the wellbeing of those working across social services and health and compassionate leadership has never been so important. Where leaders act with compassion, staff feel valued, engaged and enabled to show compassion themselves. Leaders have a really important role to play in creating sustainable workforce recovery and can make a huge difference in nurturing the culture of an organisation and embedding opportunities for staff to come together to learn and support one another. Wellbeing needs to become part of everyday leadership and not be seen as an add on. Project Lift’s whole system approach provides valuable opportunities for leaders at all levels across health and social care to come together to collaborate and learn from one another.
